The Somerset Hotel |

Male |
My flight arrives in Male at night from Kuala Lumpur. After talking to a number of friends who had been to Maldives Resorts. They advised me to stay a night in Male before transferring to the resorts of my choice, that way the element of surprise would be amazing. If your flight arrive at night, the resort island surrounding would be pitch dark and no backdrop to enjoy except blackness.
There are lots of cheap hotel in Male city, however there are only a few good hotels that is quality in terms of cleanliness, safety and inclusive of breakfast & airport transfers. A lot of my friends opted for Trader Hotel in Male city. I felt it was a tad expensive for an overnight stay. After all I already splurged on my resorts getaway booking, I would rather save some dough for even more splurging on activities at my resorts island. I did my research and chose Somerset Hotel, Male Maldives.
The hotel is spanking new, clean, functional and Nespresso machine in every room. I booked it at SGD300 for one night. Traders Hotel will set you SGD400 at least. Important part was, the hotel provided pick up transfer from Ibrahim Nasir Airport, so don't be cheap to book budget hotel (you end up wasting time looking for tickets for ferry and maps to look for your hotel at night). Even though it was late, around 11pm, the hotel chaperon waited with my name and alight me at the ferry boat to Male City. From the Male City, another chaperon waited for us with the Somerset Hotel sign. To my surprise, I was prepared to drag my suitcases to the hotel from the jetty, as it wasn't far from the map. They had prepared a car to fetch us to the hotel. We get a free "night tour" of Male city narrow roads and sighting of motorbikes parked everywhere. They send us back to Ibrahim Nasir Airport the next day by chauffeuring us to the jetty and included ferry boat ride to the Airport where we were greeted by our resort chaperon.
Here is how the
breakfast looks like at Somerset Hotel, Male Maldives.
