Senanque Abbey |
Built on the foothills of the Monts of Vaucluse, facing the Luberon, Gordes is one of the most well-known hilltop villages in Luberon, and one of the most beautiful in France. Its houses and buildings of clay stone root themselves into the sharp cliff of the mountain, its labyrthinth of narrow cobblestone streets makes it a time capsule old charms.
Near by, Senanque is a beautiful and functioning 12th century abbey, tucked into an isolated valley north of Gordes. Summer would be ideal to visit as rows of purple lavender surround the abbey makes its picturesque. Cistercian monks of the abbey still live there producing honey, lavender essence, and liqueurs
