Nishiki Market is a marketplace in downtown Kyoto, located on a road one block north and parallel to Shijō Street and west of Teramachi Street.
This lively market specializes in all things food related, like fresh seafood, produce, knives, sake and kitchenware, and is a great place to find seasonal foods and Kyoto specialties, such as Japanese sweets, pickles, omiyage, matcha ice cream, dried anchovies and sushi. Overall, very commercialised.
The sake shop was dodgy, they only accepts cash (where I bought the sake President Obama drank.)
