While Croatia is arguably Europe’s best kept secret, Cres Island would be one of Croatia’s best kept secrets. Last European unspoilt piece of paradise, then island Cres truly perfect for eco-tourism. Cres Island hosts some of the most beautiful beaches and lagunas in Croatia (Valun, Lubenice - Sv Ivan, Meli, Mali Bok and many other small secluded beaches). Cres town is the administrative center of the island as well as the main seaport. It has a population of some 3,000 residents that grows bigger during the months of the summer. The old center is not accessible by car, visitors have to park in the outskirts and walk in, first through a gate and then down narrow paths and alleys, which are filled with stalls in an open-air market fashion, offering everything the visitor may need for the perfect Cres experience: wine, olive oil, honey, diving goggles and inflatable beds to sunbathe on while floating atop the water. At the heart of the old center there is an open piazza, where fishermen boats can be seen going in and back out into the sea from any of the restaurants that peddle all kinds of incredibly fresh fish.
