Basilica San Lorenzo Maggiore - Milan, Italy

The Basilica of San Lorenzo Maggiore is church in Milan. Located within the city's ring of canals, it was originally built in Roman times and subsequently rebuilt several times over a number of centuries. It is close to the mediaeval Ticino gate, and is one of the oldest churches in Milan. This church is most recognisable for its Roman columns out in front. The Roman columns is a popular location to meet friends and gather. The church dates back to the fourth century. The church is free to enter. There are not too many painting inside the church. However, there is a small fee of 2 euros for entrance into the small side chapel which features mosaics. The church is a fantastic spot with beautiful vaulted ceilings and large open spaces. Absolutely loved all the paintings and statues.Pictures by MSW
