Legend has it that if you put your hand in the carved mouth and tell a lie, it will bite your hand off. |

The most famous usage of the Mouth is used as an ancient lie detector. Starting from the Middle Ages,
it was believed that if one told a lie with one's hand in the mouth of
the sculpture, it would be bitten off. The piece was placed in the portico of the Santa Maria in Cosmedin in the 17th century. This church is also home to the supposed relics of Saint Valentine.
Travel Tips: The church is gated and opens from 9:30am to 4:30pm.
I arrived at 5:30pm therefore had to take picture from the outside, well at least there were no queues or tourist hovering around the monument, managed to snap a full picture without any interference.
