Ben Thanh Market is one of Saigon’s oldest landmark in Ho Chi Minh City centre. It is a worth the visit to immerse yourself with the sights and sound. This market has everything beyond your imagination from lacquer ware, bamboo goods, souvenirs. Some even come here for tailored suits or clothes, football jerseys, textiles, luggage, watches and an assortment of electronic goods. Other section dedicated to spices, nuts, coffee, flowers and fruits. Here everyone is haggling for good bargains. Do take note that 50% is minimum. Branded replica goods like handbags and watches are very popular with western tourist. There are wet market area specifically for fresh meats, vegetable and fresh seafood. Right next to it, you will find Vietnamese hawkers or beverage seller, you will want to cool off with a fruit juice as the market is not well ventilated. The market is huge, you can easily get lost here and certainly best avoided in the afternoon, the hottest hours of the day. When night falls, restaurants around the perimeter of the market open their doors creating a vibrant street side scene filling the air with the scents of wok-fried noodles, barbecued fish and meats.
