There are two major Christmas markets one on St Stephen’s Square is right in front of the beautiful St Stephen’s Basilica (St Istvan Bazilika) and the other on Vörösmarty Square. Every year, from the end of November to the end of December, Vörösmarty Square is transformed into Budapest Christmas Market. Visitors can browse over 100 wooden stalls offering unique Christmas-themed arts and crafts. They sell traditional Hungarian foods like lángos (fried bread with a variety of toppings), kürtöskalács (a sugared hollow bread), roasted pork knuckles, fried sausages and other delicacies like home-made strudels, töki pompos (oven-baked dough) and roasted chestnuts wafting in the cold air. Soak it all up, the holiday atmosphere and keep yourself warm while strolling among the wooden stalls of the market with a cup of mulled wine. The atmosphere of the Budapest Christmas market is a truly unforgettable experience because it was really freaking cold in December. Be sure to dressed warm before heading there.
