A great place to unwind from the city life |
Centuries-old citadel perched on a rock formation, with endless views of Cappadocia from the top. Uçhisar Castle is placed in Uchisar village, sits between Nevsehir and Goreme road. A convenient drive to the castle, this man-made wonder castle rewards its visitors with a panoramic view (for those who chose to climb it) with its amazing landscape. Incredible hues of red on Mt. Erciyes at sunset hour is not to be missed, the quiet, refreshing valleys and the sandy terrain of colour created by land and sky.
In addition, the highest point of Cappadocia from land haha, Uchisar Castle covers the very expansive area. It takes approximately 130 steps to climb at the peak of this glorious man-made carved fortress.
When the people come here, they can also visit the gift shops, boutique hotels carved into the rocks, other valuable masterpieces in around such as Pigeon Valley, Kaymaklı Underground City, Goreme Open Air Museum and famous Fairy Chimneys.
Today, it is well known that Uchisar Kalesi or Fortress has been a member of UNESCO World Heritage List since 1985 and it was also taken under preservation as a National Park in 1986.
The entrance ticket is inexpensive, its definitely worth the climb if you had great weather like mine.
You will be able to see modern side of Uçhisar and the ancient city Goreme. Most travelers always tend to sit this one out. If you are afraid of hot air balloons, this would be a great substitute to visit. Do take note of the operating time. Those staying in Goreme, you can still take a taxi to the Uchisar Castle whenever you want. Its only 15km away.
